Does having an Autistic child isolate the family socially?

Having a child with autism creates a mjor problem socially for the whole family. We have found it so difficult at times to function socially , even though things are getting easier as he has improved with his therapy. We still find it fascination how the general public look at us when our son is displaying his Autistic traits and we just calmly speak to him. You can see thay you are being judged as a bad parent, you can see it in their faces. We have noticed to that people except for family do not invite us over to their homes, which I find very. They may have done prior but with an autistic child wanting to see how every thing works and where everything is, you just don't get invited back even though they didn't break anything or upset anything it is just un-usual behaviour I believe is the key factor. It really does have an impact on a family socially but you do make new friends at the groups who are parents of Autistic children as well.
